Our firm is committed to holding corporations accountable for taking advantage of individuals, Tribes and States in the healthcare sector.
In 2018, our firm filed a lawsuit on behalf of over thirty Tribal nations, including the Cherokee Nation and the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, targeting the country's largest opioid manufacturers and distributors. The lawsuit sought justice for the devastating toll opioids have taken on Native populations, including loss of life, extraordinary healthcare costs, community devastation and harms caused by negligent and profit-driven marketing practices.
In participating in the National Opioids Litigation, we secured the first settlement of its kind with Tribal governments in the country, providing critical resources to combat the opioid crisis and rebuild affected communities.
Additional representative matters include the following:
- FHC represents the Cherokee Nation in a lawsuit against opioids distributor Morris & Dickson Co. for oversupplying the market with highly addictive prescription opioids while failing to maintain effective controls against diversion and to investigate, report, and halt orders for prescription opioids that they knew or should have known were suspicious.
