The State of Illinois sued 3M, Bayer, DowDuPont alleging that the manufacturers caused widespread contamination and injuries to Illinois' natural resources.
(Law360, February 1, 2023) -- The state of Illinois sued 3M, Bayer Corp., DowDuPont and a dozen other companies in state court Tuesday claiming they knew they were polluting Illinois waters for decades with toxic "forever chemicals" but continue to actively promote the chemicals as safe to manufacture and use.
The 92-page complaint filed by Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul in Cook County alleges the manufacturers have caused widespread contamination and injuries to Illinois' natural resources by selling and ultimately mishandling products that contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, which are known as forever chemicals due to their longevity in the human body and the environment.
